The RSL is a legally required part and also the fastest diagnostic on the robot: solid means enabled, blinking means disabled, dark means you have a wiring or power problem worth finding now. Inspectors check it, referees look for it from the field wall, and a dead RSL keeps you off the field no matter how well the rest of the robot works.
